This past weekend the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change tabled a report clearly delineates the economic, social and environmental cost of not acting to keep temperature rise to 1.5 c of pre-industrial levels. By dismantling the existing cap and trade program in Ontario we are being dragged backwards in our efforts to address the pollution that is causing temperatures to rise on a global level.
This government must pay attention to what the scientists are saying you must do to avoid the consequences of severe temperature increase. Other countries are taking action and they will reap benefits of cleaner air, water and increased economic activity in a fossil fuel reduced economy. We are already experiencing the consequences of rising temperature here in Ontario and around the world.
I am frustrated, angry and perplexed at the actions to dismantle policies that were starting to take us in the right direction. The consequences of not having an aggressive plan to fight climate change, including a price on carbon, will be serious and long lasting. This should not be a partisan issue between political parties.
With respect,
