I am a resident of Dresden, Ontario and I know the need for landfills/recycling centres/dumps, is a necessary part of our world. I get that but to put a major facility less than 1km from a town, and rezone valuable agricultural land, just doesn't make sense. We do not live near a major transportation artery, and the land is not hooked up to a waterline. We are simply not equipped to handle the road traffic, the emergency services required, the noise, the treatment of wastewater, etc. I know these things can be built but at what cost? I am not just talking about the monetary cost but the cost of our Sydenham River Watershed and the potential pollution of our farmlands, soil, air, natural waterways (surface/ground) and surrounding lands. It seems that there must be a better geographical location for such a huge operation. Building a huge waste/transfer station in a confined, isolated space is not prudent or beneficial to anyone. Please research the Sydenham River and its surrounding ecological diversity. It is simply too valuable to undermine or destroy. We are too historically and environmentally crucial to Ontario, to throw it all away. It seems very logical to have York 1 operate in a setting that will have less of an impact and be easier to access. The facility would operate more efficiently, in a different location.
