to our honourable MPPs - I am writing to encourage you to reconsider the decision to cancel Ontario's cap and trade program and to fully read the report of Ontario's Environmental Commissioner. The world is becoming more and more aware of not only the environmental costs of further temperature rises, but also the extreme financial consequences as our weather becomes more extreme and unstable, and what were once rare natural disasters become increasingly common, with devastating impacts on families and businesses.
Cancelling the cap and trade is short sighted and not likely to achieve the aims of financial responsibility touted by the PCs in the recent election - it will cost to pay out the contracts, it will cost in lawsuits, it will cost in trust of businesses in future government initiatives, and it will cost in terms of ongoing climate devastation and spiralling insurance and replacement costs when the tornadoes, forest fires, and extreme weather intensifies or even remains at the current level.
The world has been put on notice that we are at a critical point - it is vitally important for you as leaders to do that, to LEAD us, to inspire us, to make the changes we need to before it is too late.
