If you do not succeed, try, try again.
This government had to previously BACKTRACK on this amendment due to public outcry, and yet here it is again. This clearly illustrates blatant disregard for public comment and obviously this government cannot be trusted to govern with integrity.
It is incomprehensible that a government would try to slip through the same legislation despite it being grossly unpopular from the onset and the very reason it was reversed . This is a further effort of the FORD Government to mute the public and act in favour of developers. It is the consistent and sole agenda of our current government.
Trust LOCAL municipalities to know about their own communities; to know water resources, appropriate land use sites, sewage capacities.
Local communities want to build LIVEABLE communities, not sprawl; where people work and live within a reasonable distance. We need more homes, but we know there is ALREADY designated space for those homes. Your task force told us so. Build low rise. Build high rise. Stop sprawl policies.
Leave Farmland alone. Leave wetlands alone. Leave Conservation land alone.
Local communities need their planning authority and atonomy. Lastly, "vacant" land (forests, wetlands, fields) are NOT VACANT. THESE LANDS HAVE A JOB AND ARE DOING THAT JOB. These lands absorb, recharge and filter our groundwater - keeping it clean for us. These lands prevent catastrophic flooding downstream in Toronto and the wider GTA. These lands sequester carbon and mitigate climate change.
The Ford Government continues to chip away at democratic process, chip away at environmental policy. We elected a government that continues to pander to one group in society - developers. A small group of developers seem to have a much more influential voice than thousands of Ontarians. In the next election...."Anything But Conservative".
