I don't believe culling is the answer. Why is it we feel the need to destroy or attempt to control every aspect of nature? They are native to this area. Lire davantage

I find this proposal alarming. I am a retired biologist. As I interpret it, a coordinated attack, which is entirely possible given the current social network, coupled with the number of people with Ontario hunting licenses, could eliminate most cormorants in Ontario in any given year. I strongly oppose this proposed cull. Hunting this bird puts other water birds at risk, will allow hunting in populated areas disturbing the public enjoyment of the waterfront and given the enormous numbers allowed in cull drive this species to the brink of extinction. Lire davantage

I do not support this proposal. I believe this is just an opportunity for the current provincial government to waste time on a policy which is unnecessary, not supported by expert advice, potentially quite harmful to the environment and gives people an excuse to use guns.

Having grown up on Rondeau bay, I have seen firsthand the effects as the cormorant population has increased over the last 40 years. Lire davantage

I have not seen any sound scientific evidence that a culling of cormorants is needed and therefore strongly object to the proposed culling.

This proposal is outrageously contrary to the mandate of an environmental organization. At no time in history, has a hunting season been proposed that classifies an inedible bird as "game", nor has slaughter been proposed during breeding season, when chicks are entirely dependent on their parents. Extremely ironic and hypocritical that one of the justifications for wanting to cull these sentient beings is that they are "interfering" with the industry of people killing fish for greedy and destructive human consumption. Lire davantage

This proposal seems like a backward step. Why would we permit an essentially unlimited hunting season for an important ecological animal, particularly when another amendment is required to make the proposal legal? There is a reason why hunted animals are not allowed to spoil ie be wasted. Lire davantage

I oppose the need for culling. Industries always think to kill first and deal with matters quickly. Instead of finding a way to live together. We are Canada. We are not like other countries that want to destroy continuously our habitat. We have a beautiful country. Lire davantage

I strongly object to the outright province wide slaughter of cormorants! If there is a problem in specific areas, find a a more targeted solution. And the limit on number killed is outrageous.

I am opposed to the hunting of Double-Crested Cormorants. The proposal has not been well studied and not based on up-to-date science. The hunting of Cormorants will disturb other species that nest in conjunction with cormorants. Eventually, nature will restore the appropriate balance.

This is absolutely the wrong approach and it’s unfortunate that a cull is even considered a viable solution. Find another way that doesn’t destroy one aspect of our biosphere to save another!!

This is a bad idea. I am an Ontario resident who does not support this at all. There is no need for this and this bird is not, and should not be, a game bird. Please do not go through with this senseless proposal.
