The proposal of the Ontario Government for what is basically 'open season' on a native bird species is an enormous backward step in Wildlife Management. Encouraging what amounts to wholesale destruction of any species in this day and age in NOT acceptable in Canada. Lire davantage

Cormorants have become a major nuisance. The plan to open a season for them would be a welcome opportunity to try and get the populations under control.

We have seen an explosion of these birds and it really is taking a toll on the small and baitfish of our waterway. We definitely need a hunting season to manage the population

I strongly oppose this proposal. The actual proposal does not produce an evidence-based problem diagnosis that directly correlates apparent commercial fish stock reductions to Cormorants anymore than to other causes - predation by other fish, over fishing, habitat loss and pollution. I fully support having an open season on the cormorants. They are destroying our fishery along with vegetation resulting in unsightly landscapes.

This proposed cormorant hunt is ill-considered and environmentally irresponsible as it is unsupported by environmental science and only institutes monitoring of its effects after potentially irreversible damage has been done. Lire davantage

I like the idea of reducing the amount of double-crested cormorants in the Northern Ontario region but around the St Lawrence and other Goby infested water ways they eat Gobies. Maybe the reduction in these areas should be limited. Thanks Lire davantage

Cormorants are destroying our fishery as well as vegetation especially trees on small islands...just look at Hamilton Harbour. I fully support having a hunting season. Lire davantage

I am writing to provide input and express my concern over the proposed changes to the regulations for hunting of cormorants. The proposed changes would broadly expand the hunting season and eliminate limits on the killing of cormorants in Southern Ontario. Lire davantage

I applaud the ministry and the Ontario government for proposing this invasive species management control initiative. The double-breasted cormorant population in Ontario has exploded and as a sport-fish eating invasive bird, there are significant negative impacts on sport fish populations. Lire davantage

I am very much in agreeance with the proposed changes. The number of these birds is on a constant raise and their damage is really impacting fish population. Something needs to change. Hunting may not even be enough as then to stay tight to heavy cottage filled areas. Lire davantage

I was appalled to read of this government’s plan to allow an open hunting season on the double crested cormorant population. This could decimate the population and there are no scientific grounds for killing them off. Have you learned nothing from the passenger pigeon debacle?

I agree these voracious birds are decimating entire schools of baitfish on many lakes. They need to be controlled to protect our ecosystems from potential collapse. I agree in a hunting season needs to be instituted right away.

This cull of a recovering native species, devastated by human pollution, is not based on science and doesn't have any control targets. This is a dangerous assault on nature. Let the eagles take care of them.

The proposal has serious flaws that would be detrimental to the ecosystem and would undermine responsible conservation practices. Neither the proposal nor the conjecture of its proponents is supported by any scientific evidence. Lire davantage
