Please do not reinstate the spring bear hunt. Cubs are left without mothers. This act is cruel, nothing but cruel. Bears are not aggressive and are a significant and important part of the chain of life in our Ontario wildlife community.

It has been 15 years since the Mike Harris Conservative government cancelled the spring bear hunt. The reasons for cancelling it at that time are the same reasons that apply today. Hunting bears doesn’t improve human safety. Stopping human-bear conflict is achieved by removing access to garbage, barbeques, and other attractants. Public education on how to prevent human-beat needs to be invested in, not killing bears who are just doing what bears do.

I am writing in opposition to the spring bear "hunt" which isn't really a hunt at all, but a slaughter. It is akin to shooting fish in a barrel . . . but with much less skill. It is virtually impossible to determine the gender of a bear from above and cubs will be orphaned. Lire davantage

It means a lot to me to live in a province where people show compassion towards other species who cannot speak for themselves. With this particular issue, the ban on hunting black bears is one such instance of compassion. I strongly request that your government does not change this ban.
