This response to proposed amendments to the Greenbelt Plan is being submitted by Climate Action Muskoka. We are individuals concerned about climate change in Muskoka.

This is a dangerous precedent for the future of the green belt and protected spaces in Ontario and Canada.
It’s a broken promise from the Premier, and a bold faced effort to enrich developers and will do nothing to address the housing crisis.
Increase in housing supply should be done by building up, not out, particularly in land that has been designated as a green belt. All of the research and decision-making that led to it being designated as such STILL stands and is even more necessary than ever before.

The redesignation of greenbelt lands would be a permanent loss to Ontario residents and have an ongoing impact on our environment and wildlife.
I disagree with this change.
Do not develop the green belt. There is lots of opportunity to build the much needed housing supply in areas that are already developed, increasing density in urban areas. Increasing sprawl negatively impacts the environment and increases our reliance on cars.

I am writing to voice my strong opposition to development in the Greenbelt.
- This is unnecessary - there is sufficient land within urban boundaries.
- It is unconstitutional in that no due consultation with First Nations has occurred which is required by the constitution.

The proposed amendments to the Greenbelt plan are all appalling! There is ample land already approved for development in the vicinity of the Greenbelt. The government should be trying to get developers to build on this land that is already approved, not reducing the amount of protected land.

Redesignation of land is unacceptable. The ecological, economic, and social value of the lands lost in this process will never be regained or compensated for. Protection measures for the Oak Ridges Moraine should only ever be increased.
