The New Hobby Mineral Collecting Guide should be revised/updated to - include privately held areas withdrawn from staking in Section 35.1 of the Mining Act in 2009, to be included in the areas to be allowed for hobby mineral collecting to occur - upon the permission of the private land owner.

At times holes are left, trees undermined, broken rock dispersed. Mention of how sites are to be left once collecting for the day is finished would be useful.

Why is this a guide - instead of a policy? The previous 1990 “Mineral Collecting in Ontario” booklet was a policy. The updated work done during 2014-16 was also supposed to be a policy.
Yet, it's now a “guide”? Why isn't it a policy?
The proposed guide indicates that rockhounders can only use hand tools when collecting.
Power saws should be included as well.
Power saws help extract specimens and fossils from larger rocks.
Plus using power saws ensure other parts of a large rock won't be damaged.

I've been collecting minerals for years.
Sometimes when trading with other mineral collectors, money can come into play.
We all want to build our collections.
Maybe my specimen is "worth" more than what I'm trading for.
Maybe the other person's specimen is worth more.

Getting permission FROM WHO? when I want to collect minerals or fossils.
I understand that if land is privately owned, then permission is needed for the property owner
But there is a lot of (what's called) public lands and/or crown lands and/or abandoned mines/quarries in Ontario?

Particularly, family recreation.
Beach combing is mineral collecting.
It's loads of fun - plus it's educational.
