I am calling on Ontario government to reject Schedule 3 of Bill 257. It is unacceptable for the government to destroy Ontario’s significant natural areas and to change the law so the government can’t be held accountable. I stand with Ontario’s natural environment and with democracy. Thank you.
This proposed amendment is a blatant misuse of power that panders to developers. It is not in the interests of the public at large and only serves to help those who have a vested, monetary interest in the development of environmentally significant areas.

It would seem that in burying Schedule 3 within the Omnibus Bill 257, Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021, the government is sensitive to how it is perceived by the people of Ontario in its use of Minster’s Zoning Orders (MZOs).

I would like to go on record as strongly opposed to the exempting of Minister’s Zoning orders (MZOs) from complying with the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) and, further, to the abuse of MZOs in general.

I am writing to express my opposition to the proposal to allow Minister's Zoning Orders (MZOs) to override legal and policy protections for farmland and natural heritage features and areas across Ontario.

1) Through Schedule 3 of Bill 257 (the proposed Bill 257, Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021) it is proposed to amend the Planning Act, so that a Minister’s zoning order would not have to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement.

Please find attached a letter submitted to Minister Clark on April 1st, 2021 from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) outlining our concerns with Schedule 3 of Bill 257. For your consideration.

Schedule 3 undermines the very basis of public land use planning in Ontario, which is supposed to be a policy-led system.
Schedule 3 undermines the support for heritage conservation and environmental protection which the Provincial Policy Statement provides.
Please remove Schedule 3 from Bill 257
If enacted, Schedule 3 would remove the protections which the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) provides for the environment, both our natural environment and our historic environment (buildings, landscapes and archaeological resources).

Using minister's zoning orders to override policy set in place to protect the environment is immoral and an abuse of power. I oppose Schedule 3 of Bill 257 and wish for MZOs to stop being used to destroy nature.
