Removing bike lanes will not reduce congestion. All the data supports that. We need to build better cycling infrastructure, complete streets, and get cars off the roads. I'm in favor of a congestion charge for the downtown core and increasing parking rates and costs for SUVs. Read more

Our streets should not be strictly for automobiles. In the interest of creating healthier, more livable communities, we need to encourage the expansion of safe bicycle lanes in all of our municipalities. Read more

I am a childcare worker for several families who trust me to bike their children safely to school in the morning. Some of the route has bike lanes, but others do not (such a much of Dundas and Queen west). Read more

Road design within municipalities should be the decision of the municipal government. Municipal governments are best equipped to assess and meet the needs of their residents and road users. Removing bike lanes puts local residents at risk to save car commuters a few minutes drive. Read more

I am shocked and angered at the Ford government's proposed Bill 212, the Orwellian-ly named "Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024" as it has been currently written and tabled. Read more

Biking has been my preferred method of transportation around the city since we prioritized making more bike lanes. To reiterate: the addition of bike lanes convinced me to bike. It works! Read more

Bike lanes reduce traffic congestion. Most highways and lanes do not reduce congestion. There is even a paradox documented: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braess%27s_paradox More alternative transportation besides cars reduce congestion. Read more

These are some great ideas! In a city (Ottawa) that is blanketed in snow 6 months out of the year it makes zero sense to make cycling a priority to a handful of entitled cyclists. Read more

This bill is disastrous in almost every possible way. Ontario's gridlock is caused largely by our over reliance on cars, and a lack of reliable transit options (Go Transit forcing everyone in the GTHA through Union station, the complete dearth of transit options outside the GTHA). Read more

I have never seen any studies that say bike lanes make car traffic worse, only ever the opposite. Car traffic is car traffic, the only way to improve it is to provide alternatives so that more people chose not to drive. Read more

Please leave city planning to those that live there and are qualified for the job. I live in downtown Toronto. I own a car. I use the TTC. But by far my quickest route to work is by bicycle. 30 minutes on bike: 45 in a car, and 50-90 via TTC. Read more

One more ludicrous idea from Doug Ford. How backwards can he get. Getting rid of bike lanes will not relieve car congestion.GETTING CARS OFF THE STREET WILL HAVE MULTIPLE POSITIVE EFFECTS FOR FORD’S “my friends”. Read more

Municipalities should decide what bike lanes make sense for their citizens. This is not the responsibility of the provincial government. Focus on highways, toll roads, infrastructure projects.

No, no and no. Are we going backwards here? Are we really removing bike lanes which encourage a healthier lifestyle therefore saving money on healthcare? Ford is being ridiculous here along with the minister of transportation. Let's move forward and get Toronto cleaner and greener. Read more

Bill 212 is not based in facts or statistics in anyway shape or form, it is instead based on what can be best described as "Emotionally-based anecdotal evidence". Studies have shown that bike lanes have little to no impact on the travel time. Read more

Why would you remove bike lanes that were just installed. It's only going to cause more gridlock and cost more money. As well effect businesses. removing the bike lanes will put us back where we started years ago. Read more

This is a significant and alarming overreach of provincial government authority. This proposed legislation removes the rights of elected municipal governments and will add unnecessary and significant bureaucracy, and is a waste of tax payer money. Read more
