As an Ontario resident, I wholeheartedly oppose Bill 212. Not only are bicycles already not allowed on 400-series highways (which the province has oversight on), bicycle lanes in cities should be handled by the municipal government, not provincial. Read more

Please review the research on bike lanes and gridlock. Bike lanes improve access to businesses downtown and are essential for safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Read more

Bike lanes reduce congestion by encouraging people to cycle instead of drive. They benefit local businesses as cyclists stop and spend more money than drivers. When installed, bike lanes see immediate use and car traffic decreases. Read more

Mississauga I 100% support the plan to not allow vehicle lanes to be removed to install bike lanes. I also like the provincial oversight of the municipalities, which seems to lack transparency and uses faulty data.

This proposal is provincial over-reach to municipalities who know far better whether or not a bike lane is needed in a particular municipal road. What input could the province possibly have that the municipality does not have in deciding where to build a bike lane? Read more

In an age of global climate change, it is extremely short sighted to introduce new red tape powers to allow provincial decision makers to undermine municipal city planning and design efforts to provide and prioritize safe, alternative modes of transportation like cycling. Read more

This is a terrible idea, the streets in Toronto are already so dangerous for cyclists and this would be removing major pathways that are used. It’s a myth that bike lanes are causing more traffic, we need investments in transit and cycling to AVOID people needing to drive everywhere. Read more

I am disappointed in the province’s decision to require approval of any new bike lanes that take away from space for cars. This decision will not only negatively affect cyclists; it affects all people who live in communities across Ontario. Read more

The stated goal of this Act is to reduce “gridlock,” yet it employs measures that compromise public health, mobility, environmental protection, and safety. In fact, this Act threatens Ontario's communities by intensifying the ongoing climate crisis and undercutting local autonomy. Read more

The proposal sounds like a post I'd expect to find on The Onion. I truly do not understand a) why this is necessary at all, b) who this is even meant to help, c) why the provincial government needs to get involved in such a mundane aspect of local policy and urban development. Read more

Oh no please don't do this. I drive and it sucks in Toronto now so the only way is to bike or walk. These new lanes help a lot by making me not feel endangered. Here's the thing even if you turned it back into road it still won't help the car traffic. There's too many damn people in the city. Read more

When I travel to various cities throughout the world, I am pleasantly surprised by how cycling has become a viable means of transportation in cities where it was impossible back in the 70s and 80s. This includes London, Paris, Berlin, and even in Manhattan. Read more

If the goal of this bill is to reduce traffic congestion that it should be encouraging more bike infrastructure not adding red tape to its creation. At worst his policy seems destined to make traffic worse, and at bare minimum it is is an unwarranted intrusion in to municipal affairs. Read more

This policy will likely make traffic worse for both cars and cyclists. Please talk to an urban planning expert before making arbitrary changes and let cities manage their own traffic infrastructure based on their own changing needs. Read more

I look around the world and see the adoption of Bicycles as the obvious way to reduce congestion, and improve air quality, and yet here in Ontario we are doing the opposite. It doesn't make sense.

Wholeheartedly against the removal of bike lanes. Almost all of my travel in Toronto is by car and I want the bike lanes to stay. They protect venerable bike riders and have never affected the amount of cars. Our roads have never been so efficient at moving people. Read more

Please preserve all existing bike lanes in Toronto. They are a vital part of city-wide commuting and vastly improve expedience and safety of travel for BOTH cyclists AND motorized vehicles. Read more
