I'm sad to see this decision. Biking and walking is my main form of transportation. This shows that the province doesn't care about my safety or needs. Cars are great until everyone uses them. We need viable alternatives to driving to reduce the traffic. Read more

I want to voice my disapproval of the proposal to require provincial approval for the expansion of bike lanes in Ontario municipalities. If urban bike lanes are not the exclusive purview of local municipalities then I can’t think of anything that is. Read more

Simply put, motor vehicles cause congestion, not bikes. Despite unfounded claims to the contrary, the evidence shows that bike lanes do not create additional congestion, whereas people switching from bikes to cars does. Read more

Removing or selling existing infrastructure is poor use of tax payer money, especially when we are discussing tools to keep commenters safe and without adequate data that this will solve the underlying problem.

I do not support Bill 212. Cyclist need a safe space on the road to ride bikes. We have had many cyclists killed on roadways. Car drivers drive crazy now a days and too many people on their phones not paying attention. Protect the cyclists.

This is an extremely wrong headed decision, from perspectives of environmental policy, urban design, and constitutional order. The province should not be dictating cycling infrastructure at city level. Those are local decisions. It also is, from an Outcomes perspective, the wrong decision. Read more

This should be a local matter. Bike lanes are not a major contributor to congestion and are crucial for safety. Far too many people are killed or injured while biking in Toronto. Read more

This bill is a ridiculous waste of time and money. The provincial government should spend their time and energy on matters of provincial concern (access to healthcare and education high on the list!) and not at all concern themselves with municipal road infrastructure. Read more

I'm in favour of this legislation. I have been a downtown resident for almost 20 years and I can attest that these new bikes lanes have had a very negative impact on city traffic. Read more

This is the stupidest piece of legislation to ever come in to Ontario. This is an undemocratic, bullying tactic by a higher order of government trying to demand a city do what it wants. Complete and total garbage. Read more

This is absolutely horrible. I deeply oppose this bill. Do you want to stop the gridlock? Give people more options for transportation, not less! Our cities should be built for people, not just cars and this is completely going in the opposite direction. Read more

Toronto needs more bike lines along major roads, not fewer. There are too many people living in the city for each person to own a car and expect to move around quickly. Read more

The proposal to get rid of the bike lanes that were just recently installed seems to be a short-minded decision on the part of the provincial government. Given that another lane of traffic will be reinstalled, the rule of induced demand means that it will just remain gridlocked. Read more
