I have experience with both GLASI priority subwatershed project and with Growing Forward 2. I believe BMP implementation has been much more successful through the GLASI PSP model compared with GF2.
Well done. My concern is as a soil conserving corn, soybean and alfalfa farmer who owns and rents land, I would like to comment on the renting of farmland practice. When I rent land, I treat it as I do my own land and improve upon what I start with by the use of my practices.
To: Paul Smith, Senior Policy Advisor, OMAFRA From: Kristen Howe, MES Date: December 21, 2017 Re: Policy recommendations for the New Horizons draft soil health and conservation strategy
Considering the important role that farmers will play in achieving goals for soil health, I am curious to know how many farmers were included on the working group, attended consultations or contributed their comments. Could that number be made public?
Clearly, OMAFRA and the Working Group have committed much effort to addressing soil degradation in Ontario. Thank you! I have reviewed the “New Horizons” draft and offer the following comments.
The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) is proud to have been part of the collaborative team that contributed to developing the draft Agricultural Soil Health and Conservation Strategy, and pleased with the opportunity to submit comments.
