A step in the right direction. It is important to maintain a healthy spring bear hunt to properly manage bear numbers and to maintain the economic benefits the spring bear hunt provides. Read more

As an Outfitter and a hunter, I fully support the proposal to reduce the distance of baiting from 200M to 30M, mainly for a safety concern as well as for an economical concern.

The 200m bait location restriction imposed on our bear guides and outfitters is unreasonable in its application. The proposed 30m restriction is much more reasonable, will allow all hunters to participate without increasing the safety of the hunter, the outfitter or the public. Read more

In some places in my BMA the 200 meter restriction hinders the ability to put hunters in a stand due to health reasons so the 30 meter restriction is more forgiving and at times appropriate for stand placement when considering traffic patterns on some of the logging roads we use. Thank you. Read more

I oppose ERO 019-0022, to reduce minimum distance requirement for placement of bait from rights of way and trails for black bear hunting. This proposal will result in a greater risk to human-bear conflict. Other wildlife will frequent bait piles and their lives will be at risk. Read more

We are in support of the movement of bear baiting distance to the proposed distances (from 200m to 30m) for outfitters. However, we do agree that in populated areas and/or near towns where this could be an important proposal. Read more

There are not enough experienced hunters which come up to hunt black bears in nw Ontario. Having the baits closer to roads/trails will offer more danger to those who these trails recreationally. That being said, many hunters will shoot at noises, at movement and not know what’s beyond their target. Read more

I agree with the proposal (ERO #019-0022) to reduce the minimum distance requirement for placement of bait from rights of way and trails for black bear hunting from 200 metres to 30 metres. The 200 metre bait placement restriction is overly restrictive and unclear.

Please do not use bear bait traps for hunting. Please ban bear hunting and protect bear habitat. Moreover, it it absurd that you would encourage bears to move closer to humans by reducing the minimum distance for bear baits in public space with ERO 019-0022. Read more

I, as a bear outfitter completely agree with changing the 200metre to 30 metres not only for safety issues for the outfitter and his clients but also because it means cutting longer trails in the woods to each bait and causing much more hardships in recovering trophy bears. Read more
