There is no justification proposed for the need to increase wild capture to support these activities. Why is such a large increase – from 25 birds per year to 200+ justified? The proposal does not explain how impacts on wild populations are assessed or how the capture will be monitored. Read more

I am opposed to the proposal to permit capture of Northern Goshawks. Goshawks are a rare species of bird in Ontario and population trends are poorly understood. The available evidence indicates that populations are in decline, as with many bird species. Read more

Although I am not an OFO member I support the submission by OFO which opposes this proposal to increase the number of raptors that can be captured for use in falconry. As a birder I am very aware of the decrease in the number of raptors overall in the province. Read more

Goshawks should not be added to the list of birds to to captured and used. There is no need to capture another group of birds for a hobby. these are wild birds, part of the eco-system. They are not toys- no matter how expensive they become. Read more

As a wildlife biologist with over 30 years of professional birding experience, I do not find that your proposal is justified or scientifically defensible. An 8-fold increase in the number of raptors taken from the wild is not necessary or prudent based on the information presented. Read more

I am currently practicing the art of falconry in the province of Ontario as a licenced falconer through the OMNR and as a member of the OHC. I have recently had the privilege of sponsoring an apprentice falconer through to acquiring his general falconry licence. Read more

I am opposed to the proposal to expand the capture of wild raptors for falconry in Ontario. This proposal risks harm to wild bird populations without providing sufficient rationale for the necessity of expanding the live capture of wild raptors. Read more
