A friend that I have known most of my life is a falconer. I fully support the proposed amendment to wildtake for falconry by the MNR. This is a great improvement for falconry, makes perfect sense and is environmentally sound.

First of all I give permission to share this entire comment that I am submitting to others; and thank you for the opportunity to comment. I have been a master-class falconer in the USA for approximately 25 years now. Read more

I am in support of the proposal to increase the wild take of raptors by falconers. The effect on wild populations is negligible in such cases. Plus the knowledge gleaned by falconers is invaluable as they are dedicated to the conservation and preservation of all species of raptors. Read more

I think it is horrible that hunters can live capture birds for their own sport hunting. This practice should be banned. Allowing birds to be taken from their homes anywhere in the province, and expanding this to northern goshawks is just awful. These birds should be left alone in the wild. Read more

I am opposed to this idea. Bird populations in the wild are on the decline and more raptors should not be removed from their natural environment for the benefit of humans. They should be allowed to live our their lives in nature, not in captivity.

I support this proposal because I’d like to be a falconer in the near future but will need to trap a bird once I find a sponsor and I’ve heard that sometimes you don’t get picked for a permit. Read more

I have a family member that has been an avid falconer for many years. I understand that 75% of first year immature raptors will die in their first winter. Falconers are able to give these raptors a chance for survival after successful hunting and then releasing them back into the wild. Read more

I support this proposal. I have a good friend who is an amazing representative of Licensed Falconers in Ontario. For several reasons, including the two listed below, it is important that this proposal be accepted to allow the positive effects of Falconry to continue in the province. Read more

Please do not "tradition wash" this practice. Just because an activity has been going on for a long time doesn't mean it is ethical or moral. It appears that falconry, too, is fraught with euphemisms. Read more

My sister is a keen falconer. Falconers play an key role in monitoring and supporting raptor populations in the wild. By allowing more falconers to have access to wild birds, the Ontario government will encourage more conservation and a better understanding of the birds and their populations. Read more

This idea has s ridiculous. Why would we allow more birds of prey to be captured and used for the sport of killing other animals for pleasure of humans. Please do not pass this legislation. Killing for pleasure is horrible. Trapping wild birds and making them live lives of confinement is cruel.

There is an extremely dire state of emergency as far as habitat and wildlife being destroyed by man and climate change. To give license to further captivity of any species of animal or bird for the purpose of entertainment is utterly cruel and repulsive. Read more
