Do Not Approve York Region Official Plan
We are writing to you today to recommend you do not approve the York Region Official Plan, submitted in early July 2022. Our reasons are explained below, but first we wanted to introduce the two groups that penned this letter.

Please do NOT approve York Region's Official Plan which asks the province to lift protections for the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Greenbelt. Once gone, these precious green spaces will never come back. Humans need these spaces as much as nature.

Please do not take away the greenbelt protection. Some of the best farmland in Ontario should be left for growing food. Since so much of Ontario is Precambrian Shield, having good farmland is important. Please keep the protection of the greenbelt in place.

Mayor Iain Lovatt illegally moved and voted on this request at York Region.
Mayor Lovatt is presently in a lawsuit in which he is personally named involving the Bethesda lands in question.
He did not declare a pecunicary interest and never disclosed this lawsuit.

The adopted Official Plan should be modified to include lands originally identified by staff to be included within the Urban Area in Whitchurch Stouffville.
The modification should also ensure that the Urban Area is not expanded into protected Greenbelt Lands.
