This government has no mandate to decide which species deserve protection. Once a species is gone there is no turning back. It is gone forever. There is little sense in putting up a fence around a small area where an endangered species is found if the environment all around it is destroyed.

Bill 5 proposes to repeal the Endangered Species Act — one of the few tools we have to protect at-risk wildlife and the ecosystems they depend on. Replacing it with vague “goals” and unenforceable measures will lead to the further decline of species already on the brink. This is not modernization.
