This bill is dangerous and is self defeating. The only way that works to reduce traffic congestion is to give people viable alternatives to driving. We need to make human psychology work for us and induce some demand when it comes to that constraint. I am therefore in strong opposition to this bill.

Bill 60’s framework to ban bike lanes is another jurisdictional overreach from this government, on top of the already disastrous Bill 212. This attack on our roads will not achieve the desired goal of reducing gridlock. But it will make our streets more unsafe for everyone, including drivers. Read more

As a regular cyclist in Toronto, bike lanes are a fundamental part of any city. They help ensure safety, when constructed property. They also are a crucial part of any climate change action. As has been extensively studied, they help alleviate gridlock and encourage community development.

My family owns and uses cars and bicycles in the City of Toronto. The Ontario government should stay out of local consultative politics. The current ratio of areas between car lanes should not be frozen to restrict sidewalks and bike lanes within our right-of-ways.

I am thoroughly opposed to this bill. I routinely use bike lanes to get around the city as part of my work and to take my kids to swim practice and karate. It is faster and better than transit or driving. New bike lanes should be expanded, not banned.
