We introduced Bill 139 - the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017, on May 30, 2017. The changes identified in the bill respond to the province-wide consultation the government undertook as part of the Ontario Municipal Board Review.
The Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) is proposing targeted changes to the 2011 Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists that would support streamlining assessments and make administrative updates to the document. MCM is also consulting on criteria for evaluating Licensed Consultant Archaeologists’ compliance records.

We are making changes to address duplication and overlap with the federal government’s requirements for toxic substances to reduce burden for facilities. Facilities with existing toxics reduction plans will no longer be required to review those plans. In addition, all facilities in Ontario will no longer have new planning or reporting required.

The Ministry has decided to proceed with the proposal within the Safer Roads and Communities Act, 2024 to establish regulation-making authority to allow for e-bikes to be redefined in a new regulation under the Highway Traffic Act. This decision was based on feedback highlighting the need for enhanced safety requirements for e-bikes in Ontario.

The Town of The Blue Mountains seeks to authorize an amendment to the current site plan to allow for importation of excess soil to fill the western portion of Stage B to the original grade.

A decision was made to implement the proposals to establish a framework for issuing administrative monetary penalties and to make updates to the Outdoor Fires Regulation.
Ontario has made changes to the Building Code Act, 1992 to add more options for enforcement in areas without municipal organization (i.e., unincorporated areas) by allowing for the appointment of a building inspector for the enforcement of the Building Code. The inspector would need to have the qualifications of a registered building inspector.
