Land use planning is a process that determines the most appropriate use of land and water. We are working with McDowell Lake First Nation to develop a community based land use plan for an area in the Far North. The plan will identify which lands will be dedicated to protection and which will be open for potential economic development.

A new Environmental Compliance Approval was issued to Cornwall Gravel Company Limited for approval of upgrades to the existing works for the treatment and disposal of water and reuse of wash water from existing aggregate washing operations, located with the existing Cornwall Gravel Greely Quarry site, located in the City of Ottawa.
We are moving forward with regulatory changes to allow the ministry and owners and operators of wastewater facilities to act quickly to help ensure that waterways in Ontario are protected during an emergency, including by providing wastewater facility owners with temporary staffing options and extending operator licences.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) to the Regional Municipality of Halton for road construction work that will impact Redside Dace and its habitat. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.
We are modernizing our environmental assessment (EA) program to better serve communities now and in the future. Comments received on the discussion paper have been and will continue to be considered when making decisions on EA modernization initiatives.
