We have decided to continue to the next stage of the management planning process for Bigwind Lake Provincial Park, which is the development of a preliminary management plan. A new management plan is required to create the first new full-service operating provincial park in 40 years at Bigwind Lake Provincial Park.

Bill 46, the Less Red Tape, Stronger Ontario Act, 2023, received Royal Assent on March 22, 2023. The Animal Health Act, 2009 was amended to expressly enable a temporary response order when necessary and to make several other changes

We are making changes to address duplication and overlap with the federal government’s requirements for toxic substances to reduce burden for facilities. Facilities with existing toxics reduction plans will no longer be required to review those plans. In addition, all facilities in Ontario will no longer have new planning or reporting required.

We have completed the 5-year review of the Guide. Changes to the Guide include alignment with updated standards/criteria and regulations, as well as a revised assessment methodology. The updated Guide will apply to new projects.

On February 28, 2024, Ontario filed the regulatory amendments to O. Reg. 160/99 and O. Reg. 610/98 under the Electricity Act, 1998 to streamline the regulatory framework related to the appointments of directors to the Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) board and to provide clarity on conflicts of interest rules.

The government made changes to a regulation under the Planning Act to regulate as-of-right variations from setback requirements, reducing applications for minor variances.  The amended regulation can be accessed here:  https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/060545

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry made changes to the regulation under the Aggregate Resources Act to manage the beneficial reuse of excess soil to facilitate rehabilitation at pits and quarries.

We decided to post draft amendments to Ontario Regulation 328/03 for further stakeholder consultation.

We have approved Ontario’s Forest Sector Strategy (FSS). The goal of the FSS is to grow the forest sector, create opportunity for Ontario families, support industry and encourage innovation and new investment, while ensuring the sustainability of our forests.

The variance is approved.

We have issued a benefit permit to Hert Inc. with respect to Butternut and Little Brown Myotis for the purpose of a subdivision development. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

The forest management plan for the Sudbury Forest is complete. We are closing this notice as an administrative action. The plan will ensure the sustainability of the forest resource, encourage continued biodiversity, and provide social and economic opportunities of the Crown forest.

The Plan of Subdivision for 12 recreational lots on lands adjacent to Munro Lake, Munro unincorporated township, Cochrane District was redlined and granted approval subject to conditions on September 1, 2021. The last date to appeal the decision is September 21, 2021.

A decision was made to proceed with the proposal as described in Environmental Registry posting #013-1669, which will provide an extension to the current regulation for forestry operations in managed Crown forests, include those species listed in 2017 in applicable regulations, and implement changes relating to safe harbour authorizations.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines has taken actions to facilitate the development of a critical transmission project that will meet growth, support critical mining projects, and improve reliability in northwestern Ontario, while advancing a shared goal of reconciliation by supporting economic and partnership opportunities for Indigenous communities.
