Ontario has finalized changes to O. Reg. 153/04 (Records of Site Condition) to allow qualified engineers and geoscientists to exercise professional judgment, in limited circumstances, to determine the need for ground water sampling prior to redeveloping on former commercial or industrial lands, also known as brownfields.
A new regulation under the Planning Act would support the implementation of the new community benefits charge authority and parkland dedication to ensure that municipalities have the tools necessary to fund services that growing communities need while making the costs of building housing more predictable and increasing housing supply.
We are proposing amendments to the Environmental Assessment Act through the proposed Protecting Ontario’s Workers and Economic Resilience Act, 2026. These changes would improve the comprehensive environmental assessment process by removing certain steps while maintaining strong environmental protections and other opportunities for consultation.

We are proposing regulations that would allow the use of administrative penalties (“penalties”) for environmental contraventions.
The proposed new framework, informed by recent stakeholder engagements, would provide a single consistent approach for applying penalties across the ministry’s compliance and enforcement activities.
This decision is to amend Permit to Take Water No. 6551-8U3H95 for mining purposes. Water will be taken from nine lakes and nine wells, located in the Township of Dubreuilville, District of Algoma, Ontario. This amendment is for the modification of water taking sources.
The Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) is proposing targeted changes to the 2011 Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists that would support streamlining assessments and make administrative updates to the document. MCM is also consulting on criteria for evaluating Licensed Consultant Archaeologists’ compliance records.
We have approved the three regulated manuals under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA). The revisions align with the Sustainable Growth: Ontario’s Forest Sector Strategy and modernize the forest management planning and wood measurement processes while continuing to provide for the sustainability of Ontario’s forests.
