We want to simplify, standardize and make more permissive municipal official plans so they are shorter, easier to understand, and more consistent across Ontario, to help municipalities plan for growth and housing more efficiently.
Through the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is proposing amendments to the EAA. The amendments, if passed, will build on the vision for a modern environmental assessment program as proposed in the April 2019 discussion paper titled ‘Modernizing Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Program'.
We are modernizing our environmental assessment (EA) program to better serve communities now and in the future. Comments received on the discussion paper have been and will continue to be considered when making decisions on EA modernization initiatives.
This decision is for a new Permit to Take Water for Gatling Exploration Inc. for mining, quarrying and gas extraction purposes. Water will be taken from 18 water courses and 12 lakes.

Ontario has approved many of the proposed changes to moose management that are intended to make moose tag allocation fairer and more consistent for provincially licensed moose hunters, while helping to support the sustainability of moose populations.
We are amending the Conservation Authorities Act to improve transparency and consistency in conservation authority operations, strengthen municipal and provincial oversight and streamline conservation authority roles in permitting and land use planning.

We are proposing changes to forest-related rules and permitting processes to make them more efficient, reduce unnecessary steps and support economic growth — while continuing to manage Ontario’s forest responsibly and sustainably.
We are proposing to extend the expiry date for Environmental Assessment Act approvals by 10 years for certain projects once the relevant amendments to the Act come into effect. This extension will allow the projects to proceed (subject to any other permits and approvals required) instead of requiring a new environmental assessment to be completed.
