On March 26, 2025, we issued an amended Environmental Compliance Approval No. A121001 to Walker Environmental Group Inc. to process solid organic waste at a waste disposal site (transfer/processing - composting) located at 3879 Thorold Townline Road, Thorold City, Regional Municipality of Niagara, L2V 3Y5.

A decision was made on October 29, 2025 to approve, with modifications, the new Town of Fort Frances Official Plan, as adopted by By-law 04-25. The approved new Town of Fort Frances Official Plan outlines a comprehensive framework of new and revised policies to guide growth and development.

A new vehicle emission regulation under the Environmental Protection Act and amendments to the Vehicle Permits Regulation under the Highway Traffic Act will be in effect January 1, 2020, which will clarify and strengthen on-road vehicle emissions requirements and set out rules around the testing of emissions from heavy diesel commercial vehicle.

We have made the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry subject to a project-specific environmental assessment process under the Environmental Assessment Act to ensure continued protection of the environment.

A decision was made on November 14, 2022 to approve the entire official plan for the Municipality of Greenstone with ten (10) modifications.

The director exercised his powers under subsection 20.13 paragraph (b) of the Environmental Protection Act to impose new terms and conditions to Stelco Inc. coke oven battery Environmental Compliance Approvals for a steel manufacturing facility located in Haldimand County, Ontario.

An approval was issued to amend Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No.3635-CL7SNT for GFL Environmental Services Inc., for a waste transfer facility located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

On March 4, 2026, the Director issued an order under the Environmental Protection Act for the purpose of requiring the removal of waste stockpiled at 2026 Campbell Avenue, Cavan-Monaghan, and to assess whether the waste is causing any adverse effects on any of the seven adjacent neighboring residential properties.

A new regulation has been made under the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA) that sets out requirements Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One) will need to undertake to proceed with the Northeast Power Line Project (Project) and for the EAA not to apply to the Project. Hydro One is collaborating with a consortium of First Nations partners.

A decision was made on July 15, 2025, to approve, with modifications, the new Town of Cobalt Official Plan, as adopted by By-law 2024-01. The approved new Town of Cobalt Official Plan outlines a comprehensive framework of new and revised policies to guide growth and development. 

The Green Energy Repeal Act repealed the Green Energy Act and amended other Acts to re-introduce conservation and energy efficiency initiatives, restore municipal authority over siting renewable energy projects, and create the authority to prohibit issuance of Renewable Energy Approvals, including where demand for electricity is not demonstrated.

Section 172 of the Environmental Protection Act, which grants powers to investigate and establish a Board of Negotiation to consider complaints of economic damage caused by contamination to livestock, crops, trees or other vegetation, has been repealed to address overlap with existing investigative powers and other dispute resolution mechanisms.

We have finalized the policy objectives to help ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of commercial-scale cage aquaculture operations (culture of fish in net cages floating in open waters) in the province.

We amended the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, to provide government with authority to make regulations, and decided to implement those regulations, to streamline and modernize leave-to-construct approvals for certain pipeline relocation or reconstruction projects to facilitate key government commitments to build transit and housing faster.

The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued an overall benefit permit to the Region of Peel for construction activities that will impact Redside Dace, which is a species at risk. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.

An Environmental Compliance Approval (air and noise) has been granted to Vertex Environmental Inc. The facility undertakes soil remediation at sites throughout Ontario.

We are amending Ontario’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Requirements under the Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Quantification, Reporting and Verification regulation (O. Reg. 390/18) and the incorporated Guideline. The amendments will reduce unnecessary costs and regulatory burden for affected reporters.
