Section 172 of the Environmental Protection Act, which grants powers to investigate and establish a Board of Negotiation to consider complaints of economic damage caused by contamination to livestock, crops, trees or other vegetation, has been repealed to address overlap with existing investigative powers and other dispute resolution mechanisms.
We have approved the amendments to the assessment report and source protection plan for the Long Point Source Protection Area. The amendments update the protection areas around three local drinking water systems, help reduce nitrates around a fourth system, and include policies to protect water quantity.
We have finalized the policy objectives to help ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of commercial-scale cage aquaculture operations (culture of fish in net cages floating in open waters) in the province.
We amended the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, to provide government with authority to make regulations, and decided to implement those regulations, to streamline and modernize leave-to-construct approvals for certain pipeline relocation or reconstruction projects to facilitate key government commitments to build transit and housing faster.

The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued an overall benefit permit to the Region of Peel for construction activities that will impact Redside Dace, which is a species at risk. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.
An Environmental Compliance Approval (air and noise) has been granted to Vertex Environmental Inc. The facility undertakes soil remediation at sites throughout Ontario.
We are amending Ontario’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Requirements under the Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Quantification, Reporting and Verification regulation (O. Reg. 390/18) and the incorporated Guideline. The amendments will reduce unnecessary costs and regulatory burden for affected reporters.
