A decision was made on May 13, 2024 to approve Haldimand County Official Plan Amendment 69, as adopted by By-law 1320-HC/22. The approved Haldimand Official Plan Amendment 69 proposes amendments across a number of policy themes/sections, including natural heritage, affordable housing, and mineral aggregates, as well as mapping changes.
A new regulation under the Planning Act would support the implementation of the new community benefits charge authority and parkland dedication to ensure that municipalities have the tools necessary to fund services that growing communities need while making the costs of building housing more predictable and increasing housing supply.

Species-specific policies (i.e., government response statements) have been finalized outlining actions to protect and recover eight species at risk in Ontario: American Ginseng, Butler’s Gartersnake, Eastern Banded Tigersnail, Golden-eye Lichen, Gray Fox, Purple Twayblade, Small-flowered Lipocarpha and Transverse Lady Beetle.
We amended Renewable Energy Approval No. 5515-8WDH5G for the Kingston Gardiner Hwy 2 South Solar Energy Project, located at Lot 40, Concession 3 in Loyalist Township, to move to an annual effluent monitoring schedule for the transformer substation spill containment facility.
The Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017, was passed on December 12, 2017. Once in force, it will give communities a stronger voice in land use planning and replace the Ontario Municipal Board with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.

We are moving forward with a new fee regulation, ‘Subject Waste Program Regulation’, under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act. It outlines requirements that the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority must adhere to when establishing its fees related to hazardous waste reporting.
