We have approved the issuance of an amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval No. A920034 for Direct Genetics Inc. (Jones Pumping and Coulter Pumping) for a hauled sewage disposal site.

The Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act has been updated to remove the requirement to publish notices of proposed amendments to the Niagara Escarpment Plan and associated hearings in newspapers, enables broader exemptions for low-risk activities, and broadens the range of compliance tools for the Niagara Escarpment Commission.

We have adopted a new Technical Standard for mining sites to address air emissions and help protect communities who live close to these industrial sources. This is a sector-based compliance approach under the local air quality regulation.

Ontario Parks has amended the Devil’s Glen Provincial Park Management Plan and has added 18 hectares (ha) of acquired land to the park. The approved management plan will protect nature and biodiversity, while also allowing for ecologically sustainable outdoor recreation to occur.

To make the Excess Soil Regulation more practical and focused on higher-risk movements of soil, Ontario has finalized amendments to Ontario Regulation 406/19 and the Soil Rules to remove the excess soil reuse planning requirements for projects on low-risk sites and to provide more flexibility when storing excess soil.

The Ministry of Energy and Electrification has taken actions to facilitate the development of a critical electricity transmission project to support economic growth and electrification initiatives in northeastern Ontario while advancing a shared goal of reconciliation by providing economic and partnership opportunities for Indigenous communities.

MNRF will not be adding Jade Perch to the species eligible for culture list (Schedule B, O. Reg 664/98, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997)

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has released Energy for Generations: Ontario’s Integrated Plan to Power the Strongest Economy in the G7. This brings together all sources of energy under a strategy to ensure Ontario has the affordable, secure, reliable and clean energy needed to build a competitive, resilient, and self-reliant province.  

The Ministry has decided to amend O. Reg. 45/11 to set out the conditions that are required for mining claimholders to sell the end product of a bulk sample and recover associated costs, without first obtaining the Minister’s permission: a “permit by rule” approach. This will allow previous amendments to the Mining Act to come into force. 

The Minister has entered into a stewardship agreement with the Canadian Chestnut Council (the Steward) for the purpose of assisting in the recovery of American Chestnut for a 15-year period. The agreement includes actions to minimize adverse effects on the species, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

The Province will continue to consider options for supporting and improving the transportation system in northern Ontario.
