We have considered all feedback received and are proceeding to enhance certain provisions in the Far North Act, 2010 that encourage collaboration between Ontario and First Nations on land use planning, amend or delete provisions that may hinder economic development, and retain joint land use planning with all First Nations in the Far North.

First Nations are working with Ontario on community based land use planning as part of the Far North Land Use Planning Initiative. The Far North Act, 2010 is the legislative foundation that provides for community based land use planning at the community level in the Far North, and for a Far North Land Use Strategy (Strategy) to help guide that plan
Based on feedback received through engagement, we have decided to withdraw the proposal to repeal the Far North Act. We are now proposing to refocus the Act with proposed amendments to provisions that may hinder economic development and enhancing provisions that encourage collaboration with First Nations in the Far North regarding land use planning
First Nation communities in the Far North of Ontario are working together with Ontario to prepare community based land use plans, as set out under the Far North Act, 2010 (the “Far North Act”).

The Minister has issued an amendment to an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) to North Pickering Community Management Inc. which will impact Species at Risk trees and their habitat.
