Webequie First Nation is leading preparation of a community based land use plan, working together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) within the context of the Far North Land Use Planning Initiative. Webequie is a fly-in community located on Winisk Lake and 540 km north of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
MNRF is proposing regulatory changes to Ontario Regulation 244/97 under the Aggregate Resources Act to expand the list of changes that can be made to site plans without ministry approval (subject to conditions) and proposing a policy that would provide direction for changes to licences, permits and site plans where ministry approval is required.
Based on feedback received through engagement, we have decided to withdraw the proposal to repeal the Far North Act. We are now proposing to refocus the Act with proposed amendments to provisions that may hinder economic development and enhancing provisions that encourage collaboration with First Nations in the Far North regarding land use planning
