OMAFRA has made a new Minister’s Regulation under the Drainage Act. This will implement the amendments to the Drainage Act that were included in Schedule 4 of the COVID Economic Recovery Act, 2020. It will address stakeholder concerns and reduce burden while maintaining environmental protections.
New regulations have been finalized to focus conservation authorities on their core mandate by prescribing mandatory programs and services they must provide, giving municipalities greater control over what conservation authority (CA) programs and services they will fund, and consolidating “Conservation Areas” regulations.
Bill 108, the More Homes, More Choice Act, received Royal Assent on June 6, 2019. This Act amends the Ontario Heritage Act (OHA) to make changes that will help improve the consistency, transparency and efficiency of decisions, while ensuring that the heritage of Ontario continues to be protected and conserved.

A number of amending regulations under the Planning Act were filed on March 5, 2018 and came into force on April 3, 2018. The changes to the regulations facilitate implementation of legislative changes made by the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017.
We have finalized government response statements (GRS; species-specific policy) that outline the actions that we will lead and support to protect and recover six species at risk in Ontario: Fawnsfoot, Lilliput, Threehorn Wartyback, Shagreen, Toothed Globe and White-rimmed Shingle Lichen.
The Mining Act was amended to enable regulations to establish a “permit by rule” model, allowing claim holders to sell the end product of a bulk sample and retain proceeds, provided that certain conditions are met. There are no anticipated environmental impacts associated with this decision.
