I'm sure by now you have heard the UN climate report staring that climate change is becoming far more real than anyone imagined - the dangers and risks have increased significantly and we could legitimately lose our planet earth VERY soon. I sincerely hope you read this report. It is important. And it is too late to do nothing.
We must reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to curb the severity of climate change. The only way to do this is to put a price on pollution.
Cap and trade is a much better method than a carbon tax. To link the two together is unfair and simply just wrong. They are two very different market mechanisms and they obviously both have pros and cons, however business as usual for polluters will lead to far more 'cons' than any "cap and trade carbon tax" would ever have. Economically, ecologically, socially, etc. cap and trade just makes more sense.
I would rather pay a little more at the gas station and be confident in humankind's ability to make a tangible, positive impact on this world we have destroyed, than have MY tax dollars go towards a legal challenge of the federal government's carbon tax and be certain we will not survive on this planet for much longer. The cap and trade funded school repairs, clean energy infrastructure, rebates so low income people could afford to insulate and retrofit their homes with energy efficient solutions (thus saving them money).
Be the help you promised Ontario. We are leaders in Canada and in the world and cancelling this puts us so far behind.
