This proposal is completely unacceptable.
We are in the 21st century. Ontario has always led by example. We have the capacity to develop industry, housing and transportation ALONG WITH protecting what is important to Ontarions and future generations. We can have it both ways, it just talks a little more work, but in the end it is worth it to those future generations. Endangered species should not be sacrificed for political expediency.
Governments are elected to govern not just the people but the land and wildlife found within our borders. They are elected to represent the vulnerable—the people, land and wildlife that do not.
This is not a matter of balancing the needs of industry and those of the environment. Endangered species are endangered specifically because of the lack of foresight of previous governments. Oversight legislation such as the Endangered Species Act was brought in specifically to prevent the kind of development you would like to see go ahead
There is plenty of land in Ontario that does not have critical habitats on it. A thoughtful government would recognize this and steer development in that direction.
