I believe that this level 3 motion should not be even considered. I have a number of reasons for that. Although I don't live in the area anymore I am very familiar with the areas including Durham, Allen Park, Hanover and the Walkerton area. I was 1st into the area 48 years ago. To win this permit would be terrific for this Pit, but would open the door for the other 2 pits in the area to feel validated with moving forward themselves. It would be a boon for big business.
On the other side of the coin, it couldn't do anything other than affect the way of life for those residents and small businesses in the area. For those of us who live in other areas of Ontario, it has been a wonderful spot to get away from the rat race and enjoy the natural beauty of the rural areas. For those who live in the rural areas, they rely on wells and the water table greatly affects the ability to produce enough water. The family homes will have the same problems. There is a business directly on the Saugeen we have stayed at who offered tubing the river. Even back then, the rocks were close to the surface of the water. All rights and freedoms must be considered in this matter. Not just the ones who have the money. The Environment is very important. That's the job of the MOE.
I hope when this proposal is complete that you will have made a thoughtful, inclusive decision.
