We have owned a bait business for 25 years. The proposed changes to the bait management strategy will affect us adversely in many ways. We are located in zone 15, therefore just outside area 16 where so many of the minnow harvesters are located. We would be unable to provide our customers with minnows as all of our minnows come from zone 16. Not being able to purchase minnows from outside our zone would greatly affect our future in our sporting goods business. This has always been a valued economic part of our business.
We believe that this strategy will force the closure of many small businesses in northern Ontario that depend on the movement of live bait to their areas.
It will adversely affect sport fishing and tourism throughout Ontario.
Please reconsider the bait movement strategy so that business's can continue to supply live bait to the sportsmen of Ontario and visitors to our province.
