In principle I agree with…

In principle I agree with this proposal, save and except the following point:

"We are proposing to further restrict the import of high-risk parts of cervids hunted in other jurisdictions, allowing exemptions only for cut (butchered) meat, taxidermy mounts, tanned hides and skulls, canine teeth and antlers from which all tissue has been removed."

My concern under this proposal is why the cape of a cervid that was legally harvested can not be utilized and imported into Ontario.

If the cape has been removed from the cervid and was cleaned of any meat, the skull and antlers are also cleaned as per regulations; why can't a packaged (frozen) cape be transported and delivered to an Ontario Taxidermist for processing within a prescribed time? The Taxidermist would only open (thaw) the cape prior to tanning/processing and the customer would get back a tanned cape on the mount, which possess no threat of CWD transmission.

I don't believe a packaged (frozen) cape possess anymore of a risk to transmit CWD, than that of processed (butchered) cervid meat, or any other possibly contaminated domestic meat(s).

In these time of economic challenge for many of Ontario's small businesses, without this amendment to this proposal, prohibiting capes entering into Ontario will have an unnecessary financial impact on a number of small businesses (i.e. Taxidermists, Outfitters, etc.).

I would like to see this proposal amended to allow skinned, cleaned and packaged (possibly frozen) capes of cervids legally harvested, to be allowed to be transported into the province for direct delivery to a Taxidermist for tanning/processing.
