1. Making aggregate resources available ‘close to market’ is NOT critical to the success our future cities. The purpose of the Natural Heritage System is to protect biodiversity. A little extra short term trucking is no big deal. Aggregate extraction MUST not be permitted within the habitats of our most vulnerable plants and animals.
2. Plan Horizon Year to 2051: We need to DENSIFY. Extending the plan horizon year will only facilitate more urban boundary expansions, particularly in municipalities without initiative to densify.
3. Population & Employment Growth Forecasts: it is important to use numbers that are both accurate and promote low human footprints on this land. High forecasts promote sprawl when actual is lower that projected.
4. TARGET-based land needs assessments need to be carefully chosen, continuously assessed and supported by related measures to promote urban intensification. There are so many reasons why we need more density.
