Uxbridge is known for its trails and forests. They bring tourism and promote a healthy population and economy.

In specific areas, like that around Boyington Pit #3, the natural environment is especially important. The lands around the pit are subject to rigorous rules (ORMCP) that protect a large in-tact forest, which hosts inner forest wildlife and plants. More importantly, it sits at the top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, where all rainfall that lands penetrates the sand soil and ends up in the watertable which feeds not only Uxbridge, but everyone south of Uxbridge too. Water quality is something we are proud about here in Uxbridge and is of paramount importance to protect.

The Pit sits on a highly vulnerable aquifer. It should have never been approved in the first place, never allowed to expand an unapproved contractor yard, and no most importantly SHOULD NOT be allowed to transfer lands away from MNRF oversight so they can continue to mine and expand.

I would love nothing more than to see one of the main roads in to Uxbridge become safer for bicyclists with fewer trucks, and that land restored in to a wildlife/recreational preserve, similar to the Countryside Preserve. It could potentially bring in more income through tourism, while protecting our water quality and environment for good!

Please consider letting the Miller contract expire so they have to restore the pit, as per the original contract. And say NO to allowing Miller to remove a portion of the land from MNRF oversight.
