The Ontario Government’s proposal to develop on land currently part of the Green Belt is both a disappointing and terrible decision. While arguments may be made about the necessity for new land to house Canada’s growing population and address the population crisis, these issues can be addressed by building vertically, rather than sprawling horizontally. The Green Belt represents one of the last bastions of ecological diversity in Southern Ontario. Developing the Green Belt will result in an irreparable loss of Canadian wetlands. I rarely participate in government proceedings, but as a now 23 year old, I cannot stand idly by when government threatens to take away the opportunity for future generations to enjoy the land I was privileged enough to enjoy and experience throughout my youth. Please consider repealing this decision.
