Good morning,

I attended a community meeting on May 9, 2023 to discuss the potential impacts to the residents and the environment related to the proposed re-zoning of vacant land by R.W. Tomlinson Ltd on Storyland Road in Horton Township. I would like to express that I strongly oppose this pit being approved or active for operation. A pit of this magnitude will greatly affect the quality of life for many of the residents located within Horton Township. I also have concerns about the long-term environmental impacts another designated aggregate site in Horton Township will pose.
There are already a number of designated aggregate pits located throughout Horton Township. The purposed re-zoning of the vacant land was not dedicated/zoned for aggregate purposes and lots on Ruttan Road were severed years ago leading to houses being built. Home owners would not have chosen to build their homes in this area if the above mentioned land had been designated for aggregate. I also question whether their severances would have been approved by Horton Township if the land had been zoned for aggregate purposes.
While I acknowledge some assessments and reports have been prepared by Tomlinson Ltd consults a pit of this size is the largest in our Township's history to my knowledge. It would require more rigorous evaluation of impacts and monitoring. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
