Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the RCR proposal.

RCRs are indiscriminate snares that have no place in today's society. The countless domestic and wild animals that end up in the landscape with a snare attached to some body part is unacceptable. The fact that anyone can attempt to "build" one of these devices and leave them in the ecosystem is not ethical or sound management. The appearance of regulating these snares, is just that, appearance.

(RCRs) must have identification tags with a number to better identify and investigate those that are illegally set.

The claim that a change in the cable diameter and release is science-based - where is this data? Why not share the research that promotes these changes.

What method does the ministry intend to deploy to monitor these changes? There are not enough CO's to actually pursue this issue in the field. Coyotes and wolves are scapegoats for bankrupt politics and shallow ethics. Poor husbandry practices need better management oversight, and ministry methods that actually follow rigorous scrutiny during investigations and follow-up for compliance.

We do not need changes to RCR design, we need a commitment from the government to actually protect and preserve Ontario canids and other sacred wildlife. These changes reflect a stuck mentality that caters to a minority of trappers. Where is Indigenous knowledge and engagement?

Decide against implimenting these changes to the RCR. Please consider a ban on the use of these sketchy, rogue cables of torture and cruelty.
