Norfolk County is in need of development land as it can no longer rely solely on agriculture for its property tax base. The elected council has taken the necessary steps to accommodate growth and have a very responsible growth plan proposal for the next 26 years. The council has a cross section of representation from across the county and has the expertise ensure Norfolk’s growth plan is well balanced with both growth and farming systems in mind. Norfolk has had the lowest growth rate when compared to other municipalities in Southwestern Ontario and to continue down this path would be a very perilous approach for its property tax payers. Aging roads bridges and infrastructure are a big concern to Norfolk County residents and new growth is a must to increase the tax base on behalf all existing residents of the county.
