Never having worked for the MNR Fire Program. As a lifetime resident of Ontario I am watching the impacts of climate change across Canada. Wildfires are one of the most costly natural hazards to a communities when they strike. Modernization of wildfire programs is needed alongside collaboration from all levels of government. We can not stand around and be victims watching homes burn, when we had the opportunity to communicate and educate ourselves on the risk. We the residences need to encourage government to streamline and work together with new and existing public safety programs. With change it self comes risk we need to learn from the past events and each other.
The attached opinions highlight the need for government moving forward to :
Take and all of society approach as we: collaborate and share public safety resources, use a single window for service, reach for standardization of processes to aline with best practices and other ministries, use existing networks to modernize the provincial wildfire program and learn from other agencies who are making the same effort locally and across the world.
