Cancellation of the cap and trade policy doesn't appear to be an action followed by equitable proposed future actions. Cap and trade tax has already proven to improve smog and pollution and would continue to encourage business owners to innovate towards carbon pollution reduction and invest in the means to be more environmentally responsible. The proposed bill to replace this cap and trade policy won't be able to hold any company quantitatively accountable for the amount of carbon pollution they may or may not create. It is therefore not progressive to cancel cap and trade and will not benefit Ontarians, or any other living thing worldwide. The taxes gained from cap and trade are inherently and quite obviously helpful to Ontario for the contribution to social efforts. If it truly is leading to increased gas prices, then policies need to be put in place ensuring that the tax penalty awarded to polluting companies can not be turned to the consumer. The tax is designed as incentive for innovation of the businesses and not to be passed on to the consumer. There should be more public regulations regarding environmental action with a significant motivation to progress towards zero waste, zero pollution communities. We have seen the innovation business is capable of, and we can expect them to overcome any and all hurdles in front of them. As consumers we are left without the option to be environmentally conscious when the only options often have negative consequences in some way. Policies like cap and trade allow the consumer to benefit from pollution by provincial extension. If the province can benefit from pollution, and businesses are actually motivated to innovate and improve, then the consumer - the voters, the population of Ontario and our global community are better off for it.
