As someone whose livelihood depends on the natural environment, knowing that the current government has no regard for maintaining the current state of the environment is extremely distressing, to say the least. If we do not address the crisis that is the environment immediately it is only going to get worse.
The UN has just released news that is not new, but concerning. It is most concerning because this is a problem we can solve and yet, this government is just showing how selfish and uncaring they truly are.
And here are some other facts.
Bill 4 fails to match the urgency of the climate crisis and represents a major step backward in the fight against climate change.
It is unfair and unreasonable to eliminate the province’s only climate plan without being transparent with the public about the plan to replace it.
Bill 4 closes Ontario for business to the $26 trillion global clean economy and will have a negative effect on clean jobs and investment.
Pollution pricing must be a pillar for a climate plan to be efficient and effective.
A credible climate plan would include binding targets to shift Ontario towards being 100% carbon neutral by 2050, supported by specific measures in the areas of energy efficiency, home, and building heating, transportation, electricity, and climate adaptation.
Please, let's stop making the number 1 priority profit for big business and think about our lives and how they will be impacted. If you were complaining about the heat this summer it is only going to get worse. This is a problem we can address and see concrete solutions if we do the right thing -which is apparently the problem.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
