What on earth is the purpose of having environmental protection when it doesn't end up protecting the environment? It is meaningless to put laws into place that can be overridden when they become a nuisance. The point of these Environmental Assessment and protection laws is to prevent damaging construction and habitat conversion from occurring in fragile areas. The laws are meant to be a nuisance to construction to stop us from irreversibly destroying our planet.
