I have lived in close proximity to Algoma Steel for more than 30 years now. There has never been a time that seemed to have less particulate over any other time that I can remember. Things noticeably begin to accumulate as soon as the sun sets and taper off prior to sun rise. Owning a vehicle that would be considered late model, is assinine in that the constant infusion of pollution to the paint, renders even the most prudent minded OCD diagnosed germaphobe, inconsequential in the fight to maintain a semblance of cleanliness, to anything which exists outside. Regardless of covering, everything eventually turns grey and black, be it brick, vinyl, soffit, interlocking brick, window sills, pressure treated patios and even grass. Pick a warm summer day and walk across a lawn in the westend, without shoes or socks. My siding has a lifetime warranty against discolouration and cracking and after 20 years needs to be replaced because of the soot that has infused the vinyl. Algoma Steel won't cover that will they? Is there any subsidy provided for the extra water being used by those who live next door to the plant for the constant washing, which is required of any surface exposed to the elements? I have, like many others heard the talk about the EAF coming online how much better it will be, we'll see.
