I read an article recently…

I read an article recently about things the super rich were asking Douglas Rushkoff, Professor of Media Theory and Digital Economics at CUNY/Queens and who gives lectures about media, society, and economics around the world. One of the questions outlined in the article was about what regions of the earth Rushkoff thought would be least affected after the environmental collapse. Five super-wealthy guys from the upper echelon of the hedge fund world were wondering if Rushkoff had any insight into how one might maintain authority over a personal security force after a cataclysmic environmental event. They were posing these questions at a "future of technology" talk he was giving.

I feel like Canadian politicians are acting like they belong to this group of super rich people who can afford to take their time, just mess around and "play politics" instead of dealing immediately with climate change. I don't think most of them are in the 1% who are building bunkers and asking questions about how to maintain personal security forces. They should realize that they and their children are going to be trying to survive with the rest of us. Or they could just do their job and regulate industry to protect people and the environment, you know, like you do when you are a public servant.

We all need political will to act on climate change right now. If that is unclear to Canadian politicians it is because they are either so inept at their job that they cannot understand the peril we are in right now or they have a personal plan for survival and they are just taking kick-backs and wasting time until they move to higher ground and build a wall to keep us all out. Both scenarios are abhorrent.
