I am writing to express my firm opposition to Bill 4, the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018. Just a few days ago, on October 8, 2018, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its latest report warning of "floods, drought, extreme heat and increased poverty should the world not take radical action to address climate change." (source: The Guardian). Cancelling Ontario's cap and trade system is the last thing Ontarians need. Climate change is clearly a dire threat for us all. If the Government of Ontario had another equally good or better plan in place to tackle this threat responsibly, I'd be all for it. However, there is no such plan in place, or in the works. The citizens of Ontario deserve responsible legislation to deal with the climate crisis, meet our international commitments, and reduce carbon emissions in our province, to contribute to a more safe, secure, and healthy future for us all.
