I strongly object to this proposal on the basis that it makes removes barriers to constructing Highway 413, which is a bad project that should not be built.
1) The proposed route cuts through valuable farmland and sensitive greenspace, neither of which can ever be recovered once they're paved over.
2) Ontario's farmland is some of the most productive in the country. Why squander it?
3) We have a responsibility to preserve nature, including the endangered species that the 413 puts further at risk.
4) Ontario's environmental assessment processes are meant to stop projects like this in consideration of the above.
5) The 413 is totally unnecessary. It's a highway through the middle of nowhere that for most commuters would save a trivial amount of time.
6) If we really need another highway bypassing Toronto and the GTA, we have the 407 right there. Buy it back or negotiate better terms for the people of Ontario with 407 ETR.
7) The 413 will encourage suburban sprawl, which will destroy even more farmland and greenspace not directly impacted by the highway.
8) Suburban sprawl will force more people into unhealthy car-dependent lifestyles and increase the number of cars on the road, thereby increasing traffic congestion.
9) The project is a disgusting and cynical scheme to increase land value for the premier's rich developer buddies who have over the past decades speculatively acquired land in the area surrounding the proposed route.
I am appalled at the governance of this province and I condemn this proposal, and its sibling bike lanes proposal, in the strongest possible terms.
